Elo Guide: How to complete your profile
Elo is a mentoring application that offers optimal support to its users through each of its actions. We want you to create a profile that represents you personally, but especially professionally. This is why we have provided you with this guide to help you create your profile.
Here are some reasons to have a complete and detailed profile:
- A detailed profile allows you to have recommendations of mentors personalized according to your interests;
- The profile greatly facilitates exchanges between mentors and mentees. The more complete it is, the more quickly mentors will understand your professional reality and your needs and will be able to accompany you in an optimal manner;
- For a mentor, a complete profile greatly increases the chances of being contacted by mentees.
1. How to complete your mentee profile?
After completing a short questionnaire following your registration with Elo, you will notice a purple band at the top of your screen. This shows you the items that need to be completed on your Elo profile. By following the steps to create your profile in this purple band, you will have a detailed profile that will allow you to have the most rewarding mentoring experience. When your profile is complete, this band will disappear. After that, you can edit your profile at any time by clicking on "Edit your profile" in the "Profile" tab.
Profil image
The photo is important, since it represents you. You can put a photo of yourself in a professional setting (LinkedIn photo), in a relaxed context or choose to put an object representative of your profession. This is a way to personalize your profile and to humanize the virtual mentorship. The profile photo is not mandatory, it is up to you to choose whether or not to put one! Make sure that you do not upload a photo larger than 2 MB. Also make sure it is already in the right orientation.
What is your position / Who is your employer?
Concisely state the position you hold and the organization you work for.
Tip: The position you occupy on your profile should be understandable to someone who is not familiar with your company or industry.
Where are you located?
The city in which you live is indicated to facilitate mentor/mentee meetings. Unless restricted by your organization, mentor/mentee meetings are not only permitted, but desirable. Some users will contact their mentor via the Elo mentoring app and then arrange to meet in person to build a lasting relationship.
You in a few words
Here we want to find out who you are! You can introduce yourself with a "catchy" phrase that communicates your interest in your profession/function and summarizes your career path in a very succinct manner.
For example:
"I need to feel useful, which is why I became a firefighter. I love the adrenaline that my job gives me."
MENTORING PROFILE
What do you want to learn or delevop?
Elo's matching algorithm is based on our users interests. We ask that you enter a minimum of 5 keywords that reflect your skill set, professional interests or field of work. You can change your interests at any time if your mentoring needs change.
Based on the interests listed in this section, Elo will suggest a selection of mentors who share your interests. In fact, mentors on Elo are required to fill out a similar section called "Mentoring Interests" which indicates the topics they wish to mentor on.
Take the time to articulate and detail your career interests. This is the main matching factor in Elo's algorithm and the key to finding a mentor who is a good fit for you.
If you're not sure what your interests are, feel free to look at other profiles of participants in your mentoring program for ideas!
What would you like to learn?
Write in one or two sentences what you want to learn by registering with Elo. Describe your challenges, your work reality and/or the skills you would like to develop through mentoring. We recommend that you take a moment to think about your mentoring needs and development goals before contacting a mentor. Research shows that the benefits of mentoring are greatest when mentees have well-specified needs or goals. This is also a question you will be asked frequently by your mentors.
MY LIFE AT WORK
My daily work activities
Present your main tasks in a user-friendly manner with a short description. This summary of your duties allows mentors to get an overall idea of your position and responsibilities. You can add your LinkedIn account to your profile in the "social networks" section to display all of your duties and career path.
TRAINING
Diplomas and schools.
All the diplomas are relevant and allow you to have a complete view of your training, even if they are not directly related to your job. Start with the most recent diploma and use the "+" to add a new training. It is advisable to be precise in the naming of your training programs to facilitate their understanding.
MORE ABOUT ME
Social network addresses
We strongly encourage Elo users to share their LinkedIn profile to provide access to their full resume. Also, if you have a company website, it's a good idea to include it there.
Interests outside of work
We offer the opportunity for mentors and mentees to connect with each other in ways other than your profession. What could be better than talking about our challenges with a mentor who loves movies like we do! Our 19 years of experience in mentoring at Academos have taught us that common passions between users make it easier to establish lasting relationships. However, these interests are not taken into account in the mentor recommendation algorithm.

MENTORING PROFILE
What would you like to share?
Mentoring interests
Mentoring interests tell your future mentees what you want to mentor about. Mentees search for mentors using keywords. Because Elo's algorithm is interest-based and each user's browsing is personalized, Elo offers mentor profiles to those who have indicated the same interests as themselves. The mentoring interests entered should reflect your skills, expertise and work experience.
Take the time to articulate and detail your professional interests. This is the main matching factor in Elo's algorithm and the key to having your profile suggested to mentees.
If you're not sure how to choose your interests, feel free to look at other profiles of participants in your mentoring program, it might give you some ideas!
This is the place where you, as a mentor, can describe in your own words what motivates you to mentor and what you want to share with mentees. This section is important to show your openness and desire to "give back".
