Encouraging involvement at work through mentoring!
Encourage involvement at work through mentoring!
Several factors influence the involvement of employees in the mission of a company, as well as the unity of teams in general. Many of these factors depend on the work environment and the employer, but it also lies in the responsibility of the employee. As a mentor, you are the front-line resource for your mentees to take action in order to increase their desire to be involved in their organization's mission. Here are 5 areas on which any mentee can improve thanks to you.
- Positivism
A positive attitude allows you to adapt to adversity and maintain control of your work environment even in times of change. Positivism also plays a big part in regards to motivation and professionalism. We realize that it is sometimes difficult to see the positive in challenging situations like the pandemic. However, it's all about taking it one day at a time and remembering the progress we've made so far. Slowly, but surely!
- Emotional Intelligence
Generally speaking, emotional intelligence allows anyone to analyze and understand their own reactions and behavior. This skill is in demand in 2022, as it allows us to evaluate the impact our actions, behaviors and way of expressing ourselves may have on others. This is an essential skill for any team manager or leader.
- Work-Life Balance
A work-life balance is crucial, even more so in a remote work environment. Finding this balance allows employees to take time to relax and recover energy to ensure optimal (and consistent) performance. It is also one of the keys to being happy at work, especially when you have children. Mentoring advocates and promotes the human side of our interactions with others. Do not hesitate to share your challenges with your mentor. They can help you find the right balance.
- Work that makes sense
The pandemic has led to a search for meaning and a questioning of priorities and values among many professionals. According to a Randstad study, 43% of Canadians are likely to leave in search of a new job, a percentage that jumps to 62% among 18 to 34 year olds.
Finding meaning in our work is fundamental to our resilience in the workplace. In fact, finding meaning in our job and feeling that our work contributes to the greater good greatly reduces the effects of stress. At Elo, we believe that every employee should find meaning in their work. As a mentor, you have a crucial role to play in this search for meaning, especially for younger workers who are new to the workforce.
- Being attentive
Engaged employees are more attentive and vigilant. They care about the needs of their colleagues and the company as a whole, because they take personal responsibility for the work that they produce but also the well-being of the organization. It is also important to focus on the well-being of employees since they are the heart of the organization. Ensuring their well-being is beneficial for everyone.
TO CONCLUDE
By helping your mentee achieve their goals, you can get them to work on these areas at the same time. You can therefore monitor the evolution of your mentee's skills in terms of positivism, emotional intelligence, work-life balance, reflective thinking and the search for meaning in their work. Regular follow-up with your mentee is one of the keys to their involvement, but especially to their happiness at work!
We strongly encourage you to get your mentee to evaluate themself on a monthly basis with regard to their involvement at work and the development of these 5 skills.
Enjoy your mentoring!
