How to prepare for your final meeting with your mentee?

The end of the year marks the conclusion of many mentorship journeys

This milestone is sometimes overlooked, yet closing a mentorship is more than just a formality, it’s a valuable opportunity for learning.

It’s the perfect moment to recognize the progress made, celebrate your mentee’s growth, and conclude the relationship with care and intention.

If your mentorship is coming to an end, here are two key actions to help you close the relationship thoughtfully:

1. Reflect on your mentorship

Take a moment to review your experience as a mentor: what you’ve learned, what this relationship has brought you, and what insights you can take forward.

To guide you, we’ve prepared a set of questions to help summarize your experience and share your reflections with your mentee during your final mentorship meeting.

2. Plan your final mentorship meeting

What does this meeting involve?

  • Schedule about 45–60 minutes.
  • Review the highlights of your mentee’s journey: key learnings, challenges, and achievements.
  • Take time to acknowledge what each of you has contributed to the relationship.
  • Conclude with next steps: how your mentee can continue their learning or stay in touch with you.
