How to prepare for your final meeting with your mentor?

Every good thing comes to an end and that includes mentorship!

You’ve walked this journey with your mentor, explored new ideas, and taken on challenges congratulations on your commitment and growth.
As you approach the final stage of your mentorship, here are two meaningful actions to complete before closing the relationship with your mentor.

1. Reflect on your mentorship journey

As your mentoring relationship comes to a close, take a moment to pause and reflect on what you’ve learned and experienced along the way.

To help you do this, we’ve prepared a short reflection guide with questions designed to help you capture key insights and share them with your mentor during your final meeting.

2. Plan your final mentorship meeting

Before saying goodbye, we encourage you to schedule a final conversation with your mentor.

Why take the time to do this?
Closing your mentorship is more than just a formality, it’s an opportunity to recognize how far you’ve come, celebrate what you’ve learned, and express gratitude for your mentor’s support.

A few tips for your final meeting:

  • Reach out to your mentor to set up this last conversation.
  • Plan for about 45–60 minutes.
  • Revisit the highlights of your journey: your learnings, challenges, and successes.
  • Take time to acknowledge what you both brought to the relationship.
  • End by discussing what’s next: how you can continue learning or stay in touch.

3. Looking ahead

As you continue to grow, you might want to:

  • Keep observing, adjusting, and applying what you’ve learned.
  • Revisit your notes or reflection in a few months to see how your perspectives have evolved.
  • Stay connected with your mentor if you’d like to exchange ideas from time to time.
